If you have a modern computer with a UEFI and it has the Windows product key embedded in it then you may run into a slight problem as I did. I wanted to upgrade it from Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Pro with an OEM licence that I already had on hand. The problem was that every time I went to install Win10 Pro, the embedded home licence would take over. Luckily I was able to find a fix. Follow the instructions below.
#You will need to setup a windows 10 installation media device, the tool can be downloaded [http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209/ HERE]
#Once extracted to a thumb drive you will need create a text file in the "sources" directory named "PID.txt" - Make sure you name it exactly as it is formatted.
#Inside you will need to format exactly like below.......
[PID]<br/>Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
You are all set. Boot from the thumbdrive and enjoy your operating system running on your OEM key instead of the embedded key.
